ABOUT GEMSTONES

My husband and I have long used gemstones in healing work. (We are not medical professionals but were taught to use and direct our inherent metaphysical skills for healing many decades ago).

Stones have always had a feeling of power about them. The ancients built stone circles not just because they enjoyed the architecture, but because of the energy they felt lived in the stones, that brought further relevance to the circles. Living and worshipping in caves also brought people into a close relationship with rocks, ores, and the gemstones embedded in them. It isn't surprising that gemstones became known for the energies said to live within them as much as for their color and beauty, and that a lore of those energies has been passed down from generation to generation.

Simple agate rocks once dotted many gardens as protective guardians against the unwelcome. In the beautiful gardens of one of the gemstone suppliers to Lilipily Spirit - at the Crystal Castle in northern New South Wales - huge rocks of rose quartz play a similar role, creating a haven of love and warmth and good will - energies long aligned to rose quartz. These metaphysical associations with gemstones reach deep into history, well before biblical times and even ancient Egypt.

Today, scientists know that ' dry ' rocks can contain miniscule amounts of water, bacteria, and even the seeds of life. I was brought up in the television age of Star Trek, amid concepts of life forms existing in modes other than those we have established as reasonable on Earth, and these ideas had a profound impact on me. Today, silicon life forms are conjectured as a real possibility by scientists. Who is to say, then, that gemstones are not alive?

I believe that just because a life form transforms too slowly to be considered ' alive ' in our ' short ' human life span doesn't mean it is not alive. Many religions and spiritual faiths believe in the inherent life in rocks and gemstones. Nor does not having a human brain and the power of communication as we know and accept it mean that an object is inanimate. Crystals actually do grow ! They keep transforming and becoming something greater.

We truly believe in the efficacy of gemstones and used them in healing work to restore our youngest son to good health and to enable him to reach a better level of functioning after a serious traffic accident threatened to leave him in a ' vegetable state ' for life. For the doctors and nurses who cared for him during long months in hospital, his recovery was nothing short of a miracle. (He remains ' disabled ' but today is able to walk, talk, eat, and has since had his own family).

We believe in the life force that resides inside crystals and gemstones, ores, metals, and woods.

We believe that by concentrating and focusing on these elements, we can activate the natural energies inside them, and dynamise their healing emissions.

When we create gemstone jewelry, we activate the gems in a similar way.

Many of our prayer beads are also created with specific gemstone combinations to align with select purposes.

While certain gemstones have effect all by themselves, stones often work best in a symbiotic relationship with other stones.

You don't have to combine gemstones in the same piece of jewelry to create a symbiotic effect.

By wearing different gemstones in different pieces of jewelry on the one body, the same symbiosis is created, with all stones working synergistically together.

Gemstones can also be placed in a pocket, purse, pouch, or around your home or workplace to achieve similar effects.

What we cannot do is tell you that these things we believe actually work, or that they will work for you.

We are bound as anyone else is, these days, by laws that confine and limit our expressions

and by the modes and attitudes of others who are willing to lay blame when their own actions and experiments fail to work.

So we give no guarantees with the following information, provided on this page and the pages stemming from this page.

We cannot risk our livelihood by giving you those guarantees. Nor can we honestly say you may be skilled enough to use this information with any efficacy.

However, if you already use gemstones or crystals in healing or psycho-spiritual work you may appreciate the lists and tables, and other information provided, here.

For anyone who has not yet advanced to such levels, we provide all the information on this website for your edifice, only. - Lianne

We have provided these lists so you can select stones suitable for you and your needs.

On this page are lists passed down through the ages, specific to stones suitable for a variety of purposes.

On the pages stemming from this page, you will find summaries of the meaning of each gemstone.

GEMSTONE MEANINGS

Belief in the special healing powers of gemstones has been around since antiquity and stems from the Indian Vedic astrological tradition focused on accessing the power stored in gems to enhance physical and psychological balance and well-being

The magical powers said to be inherent in gemstones have long been harnessed for their healing, amulet, and talismanic qualities. They have been linked to the planets, colors, months, days, and even the hours. People believed that these powers came from the life force of the earth, itself, formed in the heat and pressure of volcanic action. For many, these powers are a gift of Nature, ready to be exploited as a tool for facilitating healing. This type of healing is called lithotherapy, and is actually gaining some respect in modern medical science.

Some of t
he marvelous properties of crystals have been scientifically proven. Before the invention of atomic clocks in the 1960's and later modern digital devices, quartz clocks were the most accurate timekeeping devices in the world.  In 1880, Jacques and Pierre Curie discovered that quartz had the ability to generate an electric potential in response to applied mechanical stress. This is called piezoelectricity.

Tourmaline is another gemstone with piezoelectric electric properties, and is also pyroelectric (generates an electric potential in response to heat). As well, tourmaline immersed in water generates negative ions. Tourmaline has been used in pressure sensitive gauges, and in the cosmetic industry, as it is said to have cell protecting and regenerative properties due to the negative ion emissions

This gemstone forms part of the ceramic construction of the Quantum Scalar Energy jewelry sold on this website.

Other gemstones found to have valuable and scientifically practical qualities are Kyanite, (which has a high melting point and low thermal expansion suitable for heating and high voltage applications), Fluorite (oft used in high performance telescopes and camera lenses), and Sapphire (enhanced with titanium ions to produce short pulse lasers).

While science is still plodding its way through the potential of gemstones, the qualities already discovered show good reason to think that gemstones can be special.

We make no claims, however, for the magical or healing powers of crystals and gems apart from those proven by science, above. The following information is provided for your enjoyment, only.

In this section, a summary of the meanings associated with each gemstone can be found.

USING GEMSTONE POWER

The power of gemstones is different in each stone, in much the same way that the spirit energy in human beings is unique in each person.

E.g., Carnelian is known for its ability to dynamise energy and to give people their 'get up and go,' whereas blue lace agate is known for 'calming' people down.

Getting to know the properties of the energy inherent in each gemstone, and the benefits that can be obtained can take a lifetime - but is a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience.

We're not providing you with the full depth of that experience, here, but aim to start you on the journey.

For those who already know much of it, what we have provided is a useful reference for jogging the memory.

There are many ways to use the power of gemstones. Knowing their meanings can help you be creative in using them for your own specific purpose

The following are just some of the ways you can use gemstone power.

Meditation and visualisation: Gemstones can assist the visualisation journey of meditation and trance travel, and aid the retention of the vision afterwards. Place selected stones nearby or hold one during the experience. Quartz crystal spheres have long been used as an aid to visualisation and have been popularly depicted with fortune telling gypsy images. Quartz crystal is an amplifier and cleanser, so enables and amplifies the visionary journey. Other stones bring their own qualities to empower your experience.

Healing: Using gemstones and crystals for healing has been done since ancient times. They can be placed around a room, under a pillow, carried in a pouch or pocket, placed on the ailing body in areas of concern, and placed on chakra zones. A common tool used in healing is a gemstone wand which is passed over or pointed at areas of the body that need healing. Pendulums made of gemstone are used in a similar way, to cleanse blockages and redirect energy in an ailing body. Such healing should always be a symbiotic experience done in conjunction with other forms of medicine. Never use gemstones as a sole form of treatment and do consult a doctor if you have concerns about your health.

Purposeful placementGemstones emanate fields of energy wherever they are placed. For instance, we have a sphere of septarian or dragonstone in the center of our lounge room at home, because it enables people to communicate and work together in harmony. In a home or office that needs people to work well together and to calm an air of discord, you might place blue lace agates in certain areas. In a bedroom where someone is finding it hard to sleep, you might place a piece of selenite, moonstone, or rose quartz. In a business or shop that needs turnover, you might place malachite near the cash register. If you play the stockmarket on your computer, you might put black tourmaline on your desk to increase your luck. Black tourmaline is also known to reduce the effects of EMF radiation from computers.

In the gardens of the Crystal Castle, one of our gemstone suppliers, large rocks of rose quartz and massive geodes of amethyst are dotted throughout, encouraging good will, love, blessings, and spiritual connection amongst visitors to this special buddhist retreat.

By knowing the meanings of the energy emitted from each gemstone, you can place them wherever you feel they might be needed. Your intention of achieving the blessings empowered by each stone activates and dynamises its power to begin emitting.

STONES FOR ATTRACTING POWER

Gemstones with power properties will not actually give power to you.

What they do is enable you to develop a healthy state of mind and emotions so that you begin emitting the energies  that enable you to capitalise on the opportunities for being empowered.

Often, people feel stymied in their ability to have more power over the events of their lives because they are caught up in the challenges of difficult experiences  and can't 'see the light at the end of the tunnel'.  This sets up negative ideas and feelings  that shut down the energy and stamina required to stand up for their beliefs, modes, and needs

If you are lacking the energy to stand up for what you want  because you feel 'stuck in no win scenarios ', you are not going to become empowered unless you're born into a wider set up that is outside your control, like being a member of a royal family where you are forced by law to take the throne one day.

STONES FOR BRINGING PROTECTION

Gemstones with protection properties will not actually give protection to you.

What they do is enable you to develop a healthy state of mind and emotions so that you begin emitting the energies  that enable you to defend and protect yourself, those you care for, and your possessions or environment more effectively

Often, people feel stymied in their ability to protect themselves, those they care for, what they own, and the spaces they live and work in because they are caught up in the challenges of difficult experiences  and can't 'see the light at the end of the tunnel'.  This sets up negative ideas and feelings  that dampen their courage, energy, stamina and strength  and mitigate their ability to stand in defence to obtain protection

If you are feeling oppressed, repressed or subjugated in any way  because you feel 'helpless ', you are not going to feel protected unless you're born into a wider set up that is outside your control, like being a member of a royal family where others are on constant guard for your welfare.

These gemstones emit energy  to enable you to realign your ideas, modes and feelings - to hit the refresh button to enable a new beginning and open the door to the belief, commitment, courage, and strength that fosters protection.

STONES FOR HEALING

Gemstones with healing properties will not actually make healing happen.

What they do is enable you to develop a healthy state of mind and emotions so that you begin emitting the energies  that enable your body to defend and protect itself, and to regenerate faulty structures

Often, people struggle with bad health and find it difficult to heal themselves or others because they are caught up in the challenges of these difficult experiences  and can't understand how to 'navigate through them'.  This sets up negative ideas and feelings  that suppress the body's natural defences, energy, stamina and strength  and mitigates the ability to regenerate

While there are illnesses that may be conformed by destiny, and terminal situations from which there is no escape, feelings of helplessness, inability to change, and any overload of duties, responsibilities or expectations  only tend to make ill health more difficult. Because of such ideas and feelings, you may be unable to receive the healing that is actually possible or to effectively manage to enjoy life under circumstances where healing is impossible

These gemstones emit energy  to enable you to realign your ideas, modes and feelings - to hit the refresh button to enable a new beginning and open the door to the beauty inherent in life, (that is apart from the circumstances that oppress), and to restore the desire of your cells to regenerate, or to at least enable you to obtain peace and happiness.

Precious and semi-precious gemstones have long been used for spiritual, emotional and physical healing.

The gemstones in the following list are said to stimulate healing. They can be used in their tumbled or cut form for healing.

You may find that certain gemstones work differently for you than their descriptions say they should work.

Experiment with your stones to find out how they work for you, and to help you find the correct stones to suit your needs.

Whether you are using gemstones to heal yourself or to enable healing in someone else, take your time, work slowly and

write down your observations, such as how long each stone was left on the body and where it was placed. This will help you to

assess the energies of each stone and decide how to use it effectively. These records can be kept for spiritual or emotional healing,

   as well.

Activating gemstones for healing use before and during healing sessions is not something everyone can do,

and usually needs to be taught. Gemstone energies are often dormant until activated.

Some people use rituals to help them do this, such as cleansing and empowering processes designed to prepare and activate

the stones.  These rituals include such modes as burying gemstones in soil bathed in moonlight, washing gemstones in salted

water, purifying gemstones in the smoke of incense, and activating gemstones with prayer, chants, and invocations

Find your own best methods for activating your stonesThe key is in the focusing of intention into the gemstones.

We give no guarantees of healing outcome from the use of any gemstone.

Please always consult a physician if you have concerns about your health.

The following is only a partial list or guide for the apparent healing attributes of these gemstones

STONES FOR HEALING THROUGH THE CHAKRAS

Chakra means wheel of light in Sanskrit.

The Chakras are power focalisers in the human body. Each point or chakra wheel captures the pranic energy or life force of the kundalini spirit, (which is the creative divine energy animating us all), and acts like an electronic capacitor to focus and circulate this energy through specific areas of the physical, soul, spirit and etheric bodies

There are actually many chakras distributing this energy in our bodies but the main ones most people in Western society work with are the seven chakras that work their way up a vertical line from the seat of our bottoms to the top of our heads, and to the area just above the top of our heads.

These are known as the Root Chakra, the Sacral Hara Chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, the Heart Chakra, the Throat Chakra, the Third Eye Chakra, and the Crown Chakra. (Another chakra often worked with these days in the Quest for Enlightenment is the Etheric Chakra).

If a chakra is said to be unbalanced, not properly aligned or blocked as it works to distribute the life force energy, this can obviously affect the areas of physical and mental health it distributes to.

Spiritual development also needs the Chakras to be working effectively, as the flow of the life force needs to be fully connected in all ways for this process to be unsullied.

The Chakras regulate the auric fields surrounding all parts of the body, too.

The auric field is a magnetic field similar to the magnetic field surrounding our planet, and is an inherent force in any life form

Many people are able to see the colors of the auric field  in others, and can tell whether a person has areas of ill health by seeing whether the aura colors are muddied or pure. They can also tell what mood or thoughts are prominent in the people they are viewing by the colors that are emanating the most.

Clear and bright colors are said to indicate good health, while muddy and dark colors are said to indicate an unhealthy or negative state.

While there are many gemstones that are said to stimulate or realign the chakras, the most commonly used stones for specific Chakra healing are:

1. Amethyst - Crown chakra - Reflected energy - Penetrating the veil of knowledge, spiritual consciousness and transition
2. Iolite - Third Eye chakra - Communication - Creative communications - Intuition and perception, inner peace - Promotes healing

4. Peridot - Heart chakra - Awakening - Rebirth - Grounding - Low energy - Developmental Growth - Calming matters of the heart
5. Citrine - Solar Plexus chakra - Age of Aquarius, Communication - Unbounded communications - Emotions - Emotional control

(See Zodiac Stones)

The most commonly used gemstones for the months of birth are shown in the table, below. These are derived from different sources of ethnic, ancient, and modern origin. Choose the gemstone that resonates best with you from the selections for your month.

ASTROLOGICAL ZODIAC STONES

In ancient times, there were no particular lists of gems associated with the astrological zodiac, other than the biblical reference to the twelve gemstones in the High Priest Aaron's breastplate. (Aaron was the brother of Moses). We have highlighted these gemstones in bold yellow in the following table, as an initial reference.

To align a gem with a zodiac sign, people referred to the colors associated with the ruling planet of that sign

So the gemstone color signified the ruling planet, and the attributes given to the gemstone were similar to those given to the ruling planet of the zodiac sign

This process became popular by the 18th century, when people began to wear these gemstones in jewelry as talismans and amulets, identified by magical properties

It was said that if you wore a gemstone that aligned to your zodiac sign, you would be empowered.

That mode actually still holds true today. People wear their zodiac gemstones in the hope that blessings will come their way.

A modern list of zodiac gemstones was first assembled in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers.

Since then, substitutions have been regularly made due to lack of availability.

The following list is a compilation of ancient, traditional, modern, and new age selections of gemstones for the zodiac signs.

Given the history and associations, we have mostly not differentiated these other than to place them under the zodiac sign headings that they are assigned to.

We believe that you should select the gemstone that draws your attention and interest  from the list associated with your zodiac sign

The most popular modern day zodiac stones are shown in bold in blue, pink and white in the following table, though any of the gemstones listed with each sign can be selected from.

There are many different color associations for the zodiac signs and their planets. We have chosen some of the colors used for the planets of our solar system in space photography to define each zodiac sign in the table, below. If you look up the pictures of these planets, you will see similar colors on their spheres. The glyph for each planet is shown with the planet color behind it.
